America's Dumbest Town! Sadly, quitting NI now is going to cost me in terms of underwater stock options, unless someone can pull a sort of a Reverse 9/11 and give the economy a huge kick in the pants. But I think it's time to cut the cord with NI for now so that I can try to focus more energy on Kerry. If all goes well, after November 2 I will be feeling like I fulfilled at least a little of my idealistic dreams this year, and maybe I'll have some mythical "real-world" experience from which to draw for my future endeavors...
Lots of exciting happenings in my life! This post will be long but ugly, as I am using my new i700 and a WAP interface to blogger that doesn't allow carriage returns. Item 1: the Kerry campaign is going great guns. It appears that I am to be a de facto District Leader, in charge of a whole bunch of north Tampa precincts in collaboration with my new friend Alvin Wolfe. Essentially, it's all about organizing the bugging of thousands of people to get their asses out and vote on November 2. My only regret is that the LFV and other R&R activities in August will make it tough for me to really get things moving. In other news, the system I created for Tampa to manage its volunteers has spread to Orange County, to Miami, to Akron, OH, and is poised to take over the entire state of New Hampshire! My partner in crime, David Bury, and I could not be more pleased. The system lurks behind the tampaforkerry.com Web site. Item 2: I have officially set my last day at NI--August 13. It's tremendously sad for me to be leaving a company I still love like crazy after seven years, but I'll still be working with NI stuff as a LabVIEW consultant. My new boss, as it were, is a guy named Carlos Medina, who has been running a successful integration shop in Tampa for 12 years and seems like a truly outstanding guy--more than I dared hope to find here in...
